Evening Pastels - Posted on 09/05/2007
On this particular evening, a storm had already passed over. Another was to the south (behind me), and yet another was coming in from the west-northwest. The clouds had parted, revealing a high, thin layer of clouds far above the storms. The sun was disappearing behind the incoming storm, lighting up the sky and coloring the clouds in pastel shades.

On a previous sunset image I posted, one commenter mentioned that I should fix the angle of the horizon. Where I live is in the western foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, and the area is anything but level. The angle that you see is a series of ridges, rising one after another, creating a sloped horizon that I wouldn't change for anything - it is part of the beauty that surrounds me each and every day.

I want to thank all of you for taking the time to visit and comment. I appreciate each and every one of you! -- Kim

Great sky. I like the way you have included a sliver of land and the tree is great.

Not surprised you were out to capture this...as for the horizon, only needs to be "fixed" for water in my opinion.

Big sky!! I love the Appalachian Mountains. I've hiked portions along the Appalachian "Highway" trail, but never really saw a sky scape to match this. Love the deep dark blue of the storm clouds.

The sky has really beautiful gradation. And the silhouette of tree is poetic. I love this scenery.

Very pretty. Love the lone tree and I'm glad you mentioned about the horizon not needing straightened. I've had people point that same thing out to me on my images. I know what the horizon looked like when I shot the photo :)

Beautiful sky. Lovely colors. The lone tree provides a nice contrast to break up the horizon line too.

Wonderful show of colour, but i think you shold have straightend the horizon.
